A Dream Born from Experience

Play Muskegon began with a simple observation during our family trips to the United Kingdom: the profound impact of intentional, imaginative play spaces on young children. As parents of two under five, we witnessed firsthand how our children thrived in environments that stripped away the noise and flash of typical modern toys, focusing instead on creative, open-ended play.

Meet the Founders

Our journey to creating Play Muskegon is deeply rooted in both education and family. Jacqui Robinson, with her background in theater arts and early childhood education, brings a unique perspective to our play space. After earning her BA in Elementary Education from Grand Valley State University, Jacqui’s path led her through experiences as a Walt Disney World Cast Member and later to the United Kingdom, where she earned her MA in Theatre for Young Audiences from Bath Spa University. It was during her time in the UK that she developed a passion for creative play experiences specifically designed for children under five.

Back in Muskegon, Jacqui has been an active force in the community, from directing theatre arts programs to teaching at Muskegon Community College. Her creation of “Broadway Babies” and recognition as one of The Future 15 by the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce speaks to her commitment to enriching our community’s youngest members.

Why Play Muskegon?

As parents, we understand the challenge of finding spaces that truly serve both children and adults. Too often, we find ourselves in adult spaces where children are merely tolerated, or in child-focused spaces that exhaust parents. We envisioned something different: a thoughtfully designed environment where families can connect through play, and where both children and adults feel equally welcomed and valued.

Our vision was shaped by the understanding that the best learning happens through play. We’ve created a space where children can explore, create, and grow while parents enjoy quality time with their little ones in a calm, engaging environment. No flashing lights, no overwhelming noise—just pure, imaginative play that fosters development and strengthens family bonds.

Our Vision for the Community

Play Muskegon is more than just a play space—it’s a community hub where families can gather, connect, and grow together. We believe in:

  • Creating a safe, nurturing environment for early childhood development
  • Fostering meaningful connections between parents and children
  • Supporting family bonding through intentional play
  • Providing a space where both children and adults feel genuinely welcome
  • Contributing to Muskegon’s renaissance as a family-friendly destination

As active members of Muskegon’s community, we’re excited to be part of our city’s growth and to create a space where the next generation can flourish through the power of play.
